Hi,

I'm new here. First I just wanted to say a really really big thanks for making this. This is the very best I've enjoyed Hexen in a long time, I love the game and playing this version is absolutely awesome. The level ups, the stats, the weapons, the viscerality of slaying through slews of enemies with the new animations, sounds and everything -- 110/10

I'm currently going through a cleric run. The first time I've actually found the Mace of Contrition fun! and I know you're working on a big update.

I've tried doing some editing and I've managed to make it so the serpent staff consumes 2 green mana per shot by switching the boolean in a_FireCustomMissile from FALSE to TRUE

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to adjust how much mana each shot is meant to use. I thought it would be something to do with
" Weapon.AmmoUse1 1
Weapon.AmmoUse2 2" but that doesn't seem to work.

Looking at the experience I'm kinda looking at
- Seperent Staff consuming 1-2 Green regular shot
- The poison flare maybe doing 2-4 mana per shot. It's absolutely great against those Centaurs and Slaughtuars and the Afrits. Such a good alternate fire.

The Firestorm is great but it's so expensive, I was trying to dial it back to maybe 4-6 red mana per shot for both Fire and Alt Fire.

Right now I only use the Firestorm to harass the Heresiarch and for very big groups of enemies but otherwise it's more cost effective to fly round using the Serpent Staff.

I managed to lower the level req of the Wraithverge to 16 as I'm thinking I'd like to use the ultimate weapon a little earlier. I remember usually having it by Castle of Grief but that might be abit too early, at least the back half of Castle of Grief would be a good point to access it.

I was thinking with the Wraithverge it should drain 12-16 of all three mana but when I try to add three ammo types the game doesn't like it.

TLDR;
You are an amazing person who's made a great mod to and I was hoping I could get some help to adjust some of the mana consumption values for the cleric weapons. I'm also willing to help on the project although I'm not sure how useful I will be but I'm willing to learn and try at least.

That's great that you are enjoying some Brutal Hexen, much work has gone into the project indeed, also really wanted to get the next major update done before Dark Ages but time just goes fast and I still need to draw up 140+ new sprites for the Ancient Imp etc Really pissed off with myself, I had some major delays on the new weapon framework for the Mage, the scripts in Hexen are so strange its unreal, I fixed the issues but again, too late.

Glad that you like the new Cleric Mace of Contrition that's great, don't forget all players first weapons have special attacks which upgrade as you level up, you stated that you edited the level for the Wraithverge to 16, thats bad as level 16 without spoilers is a major upgrade set to all players so this can cause major issues in coop and may cause weird issues in singleplayer, I would highly recommend reverting your edits back its all allocated in ACS.

Brutal Hexen is designed with the MegaWAD which combines Hexen and Deathkings into one campaign, plus the MegaWAD fixes all the issues example getting stuck in boss rooms etc which is an OG Hexen issue and has nothing to do with Brutal Hexen it can occur with any mod.

Regarding the Serpent Staff, yes indeed that's the only weapon I wasn't happy with, I have fixed the issues now for the new update, on v7.5 Primary fire costs no mana but close proximity will life steal with high mana cost, the new update primary fire will consume mana and life steal on close proximity. The new update for the secondary fire will have a charge up before firing the projectile at more mana cost and will remove life steal.

Yes indeed I have already reduced mana for the Firestorm, its a great weapon to cause havoc. At the time I thought well the Serpent Staff primary costs no mana unless close proximity so make the rest of the weapons cost more, this is fixed and balanced for the next main update.

You would like the Wraithverge to use all 3 mana types? If I implement this players might be pissed off as that seems really expensive, it already uses 2 mana types. I like the idea, maybe have the secondary fire use all 3 mana types?

Thanks for the kind words, so basically the weapons are now balanced already, just so much work expanding on the bestiarium. Also I fixed the HUD so its now fully scalable! I will upload some screenshots here and show you the sprites of the Ancient Imp!

That HUD looks sick. I won't lie I've been using the alternative HUD which works well except for the armour and fletchette count but I've just keybound the + / - on my mouse 4 and 5 so I can quickly zoom in and out to check armour and fletchette count, with that new HUD though it'll be perfect.

Yea Mace of Contrition is sick, I was very surprised when I got to level 7 and I got this shockwave ability, because of the mana costs I've added to the serpent staff I've had to be quite conservative with the staff, but with the Mace I've had some very interesting combinations. Like if there's a stack of afrits or chaos serpents in a tight corridor or cave, I'll throw out a few fletchettes to gas them and then send some contrition shockwaves to finish them off, and the shield bounces there fireballs which is sick.

The way the game is now it's incentivising me to use all available resource so the mace is getting action, serpent staff. Firestorm for hectic situations and bosses. Fletchettes going out by the dozen, shield for defence. Then converting blue mana to power green and red, healing with red mana or using quartz, and the crafting as well. Been smashing those potions of excellences to get lots of stats.

Really really amazing, makes all the resources and situations in the game so much more valuable. Nothing is redundant.

I'll put Wraithverge back to 18, I didn't know there was a secondary fire. God knows what that's going to be like, gonna have to be strapped to my seat for that one haha.

You're probably right about the three mana types, the only thing I can think of is maybe a much cheaper three mana cost rather than a higher two mana cost but then actually maybe two mana makes more sense. I quite like being able to convert mana and shuffle it around so I'm powering the weapons required as I need them.

I forgot there was an expansion and didn't realise there was a wad that combined the two. So far of not had any issues. I've not got stuck in any boss rooms or had anything break but I'm only up to Castle of Grief. Looking at it it's all working perfect. I'll download the megawad though if that's what it's meant to be played on.

Thanks for your quick and detailed reply and don't beat yourself up with delays and stuff. In my experience particularly with work everything always takes twice as long, nothing ever goes according to plan. There's always snags and unexpected problems that arise. The best games ever made are the ones where the developers had the time to write it and not be rushed by corporate. As they say, it gets done when it gets done. You can't rush perfection.

That's great that you like the new HUD, that was a nightmare to update, there's also a secondary HUD layout which is also fully scalable.

I tried my best to balance all weapons and give a special ability for each weapon without writing any spoilers here. I like the loop you created for the Cleric. My loop for the Cleric is run, jump and kick them midair! Then cause havoc! So much fun! For the Fighter my loop is run in and preform the Fighter combo Fire + Fire + Punch + Block goes straight to double shield bash. For the Mage, well the new update is total madness! Glass cannon loop.

Yes I agree having 3 mana types for weapon 4 primary fire maybe confusing for players at first, so I will add 3 mana types for the secondary fire so its more of a gradual process going from 2 to 3 mana types.

Yes regarding the MegaWAD I will send you the DM, you require both legit versions of Hexen and the DLC for the MegaWAD to work correctly, you add these into your mod order. All ZDL Editions have the mod order in numerical folders.

Thanks for the kind words, I agree that its the shareholders that rush development, seems they want a quick buck profit they don't care about the product they invested in. These entities invest before the hypetrain, then just before the train derails they are out long gone, they don't care about the aftermath, they made profit.

Also its highly recommended to use the NZDOOM Engine for Brutal Hexen/Heretic as the new versions of Gzdoom break dynamic/sector lighting and result in green lights from torches etc Please make sure to include the .ini for the correct shaders.

Hey there, my friend! I came across Brutal Hexen a few days ago, and I haven’t been able to play anything else since! I was already a fan of Brutal Doom, but Hexen has instantly become my all-time favorite game—seriously, it’s amazing! hahaha
I’d really love to get a copy of the WAD you have, especially if it already includes the DLC. English isn’t my first language, so I’m a bit confused about how to get my hands on this gem haha. If it’s not free, I totally understand—sorry if I’m being a bother!

Sent over a DM regarding the MegaWAD, I appreciate the feedback that's means alot.

Please remember that you require both legit versions of Hexen.WAD and the Deathkings.WAD DLC for the MegaWAD for work correctly, you would also need to start a new game with the new mod order, always use ZDL for loading the game. hope this helps!

Hey guys! New to this area, recently discovered Brutal Doom which pointed me in this direction - looks amazing! I've dabbled briefly in Brutal Heretic, keen to get Brutal Hexen up and running - the Dark Ages update sounds like it will be an absolute riot!
Wondering if I can get the MegaWAD please? Can confirm that I do have legit versions of the relevant WADs Smile
