Its a mappack and I'm not sure where I downloaded it from? Users were asking about a Heretic MegaWAD when I was referring to the custom mappack. I'll find it again and link you the mod.
No it isn't necessary to use the custom mappack but its highly recommended to allocate the combine episodes if you plan on going through Heretic and the expansion 4/5 episodes.
